Draycote 35 - 2009 Print E-mail

Once again The Draycote Water 35 incorporated the Draycote Water Marathon. The event is proving very popular with the limit of 100 entrants, this year both races were full by Christmas 2008, by over subscribing to allow for drop outs most of the runners on the reserve list were able to run.

After a glorious previous day with wall to wall sunshine expectations were high for this to continue, unfortunately this was not the case with a strong icy wind blowing off the water conditions were far from ideal.

With these conditions any chance of a course record were very much dashed, Roger Wilkes race organiser assembled the runners at the start points after dragging the runners away from the shelter of the trees.

Charles Wartnaby 3:00:05 first home for the Men, Sally Baker first for the Ladies 3:05:38 in the Marathon, in the Ultra 35 mile race Marcus Scotney 3:47:05 for the Men, Isobel Knox 4:26:30 for the Ladies, click on the links above for the full results.

The Marathon involves, only! 5 laps of the course around Draycote Water whereas the traditional 35 mile event means another two laps making 7 in all. The course as usual followed the boundary road around the reservoir which offers many excellent views over the water and the local countryside, views that all those who completed the races were very familiar with when they finished.

Tea, Coffee, Water and light snacks were made available and served by Kenilworth Runners the host club, all to be rounded off with a well stocked goodie bag as the runners finished.

A great day for Kenilworth Runners, who thank Severn Trent Water for their hospitality for the venue and facilities, but most of all for the runners who ran in such windy and cold conditions
