Resolution Relay
On a chilly New Year Day 14 members some in fancy dress enjoyed this 2.5 run, competeing in pairs and racing against their predicted time set by the club races, normaly sent off individually to form the relay, as it was very cold to be standing it was decided to go all together and adjust their times at the end.
In a race that is considered more fun than being serious Stef Shillington and Colin Underhill were the victors recording a joint time of 39.28 just 1 minute 27 seconds from their predicted time, Joan Mason and Liz Hegan 2nd 1 minute 41 seconds out.
The race was rounded off with hot honey punch and mince pies a grand start to the New Year.

Godiva New Year 5
With the unrelenting Big Freeze continuing into the New Year, the Coventry Godiva Harriers hosted New Year 5 Mile Race went ahead only after an early morning inspection of the course on race day. As things materialised the runners faced cold but sunny conditions that proved conducive to some quick times. Richard Steel was the first home of the three Kenilworth Runners competing, his 31:29 earned him 34th position. He was followed by Mark Hall (56th, 34:37) and Martin Belcher (58th, 34:44).

Huncote Hash - 7
On a beautifully sunny but freezing winter's morning, nearly three hundred runners braved the elements for this annual multi-terrain race. The course was altered from previous years to avoid the sand quarry workings. Starting from the fields of Huncote leisure centre the course wound through woods and across frozen fields and paths to the quarries at Croft country park. After a number of significant icy climbs the runners were welcomed with magnificent views over the Leicestershire countryside. From here they decended towards Huncote and once back across the fields were treated to an icy water dip in the local stream just before the finish line. For their efforts all competitors were treated to a hot cup of soup and bread roll. Tom Dable completed the race in 58:25; wife Pauline finished in 1:14:33.

Not the Roman 1X
Fifteen members took part in the popular 12 km race that once again saw entries filled well before race day. First home was an impressive Pete Matthews, who finished 59th in 50:52; he was one of six who had represented the club in Cross Country the previous afternoon. Mark Hall followed in 52:36 and Tom Dable in 55:17 - both runners improving by five minutes on their 2009 times.
Ros Matthews was our first lady home, her time of 56:27 made her an excellent 11th in the women's senior race. Pauline Dable took first place in the V60 category and was rewarded with £15 and an engraved wine glass.

Wedgnock Winter Hills & Spills
Richard Simkiss won his second Wedgnocks Winter Hills & Spills race in succession to see himself top in the series standings with one race remaining. His time of (40:03) over the 10km course was one minute forty six seconds faster than his time on Boxing Day; the snow and ice present on Boxing Day may have thawed but the muddy course was just as slippy in places and equally taxing.
Richard was followed home by two other runners from Kenilworth Runners. Tom Dable finished in 44th position (57:16) and his wife Pauline Dable came home 68th (1:07:56).

Brooks Babbling - Winter League
After all the bad weather we have experience recently it was a joy for 21 members to assemble at the Red Lion Hunningham to take part in the 3rd race in the winter league, under ideal conditions the 6 mile race left Hunningham towards Dunchurch before crossing The Fosse Way with a nice easy down hill before climb back up to cross this road again, with a delightful down hill to the finish
Stewart Fenton must have realised he was on good form as he played his Joker, with coming in with the best time of the day took the 50 points which was doubled up to 100 with his Joker, Martin Broomfield also gained by playing his Joker as it kept him in top spot of the "A" Group.
Colin underhill although not running but taking his stint as a marshall remained overall leader with 181 points.

Telford 10k
It was third time lucky for organisers and competitors of the Telford 10K as the twice postponed race, originally planned for mid December and postponed for a second time in early January because of snow and ice, was finally run in cold but fine conditions.
Stuart Hopkins was the only representative from Kenilworth Runners to take part and had an excellent run, going through 5k in an unofficial best time of 16:37 and, despite fading a little in the final stages, came home twenty-second in a top quality field with a new PB of 34:12.

Slaughterford 9
Three members made the trip to Wiltshire for this multi terrain race over nine miles. With a field of near 400 runners the course wound through steeply undulating countryside with 900 ft of ascent/descent in the Slaughterford Valley. The course being extremely icy and rutted throughout took in stony paths, fields and trails.
