Crackly Cracker - Winter League
On a very pleasant cold but sunny Sunday morning Keniworth Runners met in Crackly Lane just a short distance from Keniworth
to take part in the sixth of the Winter Handicap Races. This race is known to club members as 'Crackley Cracker' because it involves a lot
of tough hills and is by no means an easy run.
The race starts and finishes by the rough car park at Crackley Woods, Kenilworth and is composed of two almost equal laps. Each lap takes the
runners from the corner and up the hill by the Tennis Club and so to the Coventry Road. A sharp turn into Upper Spring Lane gives a little breathing
space before the right turn into Hollies lane and the long drag up to and past Duns Pit Farm, under the disused Railway Bridge in Crackly Lane to face the imposing hill up to the start line and with the perturbing thought that it all has to be done again! to reach the race distance of 5 miles.
Long standing club member Laurence Copeland lead the field home to take the full 50 points, closely followed by newish member Hilary Smith
to take 49 points. Joan Mason retains the overall position with 276 points

Ash by de la Ouch - 20 Miles
Club runners Stuart Hopkins and Ken Edwards traveled to Ash by for this very popular race which is always well attended.
The old course established a reputation as a thoroughly testing route and was used by many to gauge their fitness level in the London Marathon build-up.
Rural and undulating will be how most of you will no doubt remember it, with fond (or not so fond!) memories of Pistern Hill at 17 miles.
Following the opening of the Ash by bypass, a new route had to be found. We hope and believe that the new course captures much of the spirit
of the previous one and also adds something extra; there are still several inclines to test your stamina!
The course proved no difficulty for Stuart Hopkins who came a creditable 15th in 2hours 5 minutes in his lead up to the London Marathon, not to be out done Ken Edwards put in a good performance to finish in 330 place in 2:49:42, very good results from the 648 finishers.

Josh's Last Jaunt - Winter League
On a very pleasant cold windy but sunny Sunday morning 22 members and visitors assembled at the Waterman for the race known as Josh's Last Jaunt, an old favourite which is much enjoyed for the spectacular veiws to be found on the course.
Starting at Hatton Locks the runners followed the towpath of the Grand Union Canal towards Hatton before leaving it at the first road bridge to join the road and head towards Hatton Country World which they passed and continued past Nunhold Farm until they turned left onto the footpath that lead past Home Farm and so on to Hampton on the Hill where a left turn into the Budbrooke Road which lead downhill to the minor lane and so back to the canal which was gained at Ugly Bridge. A short run took the runners to the finish climbing up the magnificent locks to the finish.
On this pleasant but demanding course new member Colin Underhill took the 50 points for the best handicap of the day, but Paul Buchan putting in a fine performance came second and with him playing his joker had 98 points to add to his tally which took him to overall lead.
With one race to go in the series the positions at the top of the groups can still change, so it is difficult to predict who will win.
