03/07/07 Milton Keynes 10 Km - East Mids Grand Prix

Andrew Holbrook and Peter Bryan represented Kenilworth Runners in the 8th and last race in this superb series of races, at the Open University Campus in Milton Keynes

The race started on a field near the Open University and soon passed onto a by road which took the runners up into Milton Keynes where the route followed the excellent cycle and footpath route around the Town to emerge into the Open University Campus where it followed the service road to finish on the field outside the Sports Pavilion.

Andrew and Peter both smashed their previous personal bests with superb runs. Andrew finished 37 minutes and 33 seconds, in 33rd position overall and Peter was a mere 12 seconds behind in 37 minutes and 45 seconds in 40th position out of 337 finishers.

05/07/07 Bagington Loop - Summer League

Under dark rain burdened clouds no less than 31 members of Kenilworth runners met at the Bagington Oak public House to take part in the 5th race in what is becoming a most exciting series and one in which there will be more changes of leadership.

This was the shortest course of four and a quarter miles. Starting outside the Bagington Oak the course followed the left turn towards Bubbenhall passing downhill over Bubbenhall Bridge and so onto the Lane that leads to the Coventry Road where at Tantara Lodge it turns right and after about half a mile turns right again at, on the night, the aptly named ‘Cloud Bridge’ onto the road to Bagington which offered the first climb. After passing the start the course passed through Bagington Village to return to the finish by the Bagington Oak.

Ginny Cullen had a great run and at the same time played her joker to take the full 100 points. The overall lead changed once again with Andrew Holbrook taking the much sought after honour - but for how long.

07/07/07 Stratford 6 Mile - Road Race

Eight members of Kenilworth Runners took part in the fourth running of this annual 6 mile event, held at 7.30 pm on a cool Saturday evening.

Starting and finishing by Mary Arden’s House in Wilmcote the route took the runners through Aston Cantlow and so along Mill Lane, Wood Lane and then Wilmcote Lane to Aston Holdings and from there up the long hill to Wilmcote and the finish near Mary Arden’s house.

Robert Thomson lead the male contingent in with a splendid run to finish in 11th position in the time of 35 minutes and 49 seconds. Charlotte Beckford was the first lady runner to finish from Kenilworth with an excellent run (162, 50.22). The other Kenilworth finishers were, Roger Holmes (19, 36.38), Mick Williams (22, 36.50), John Dagnan (42, 38.53), Colin Dooling (74, 42.16), Tom Dable (118, 45.42) and Pauline Dable (215, 57.28). There were 225 finishers

08/07/07 Wyre Forest - Half Marathon

Three members of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Shropshire on a mild Sunday morning to take part in this excellent half marathon that has the added enjoyment of being within the confines of the beautiful Wyre Forest, near Bewdley. Starting and finishing near the Wyre Forest Visitors Centre, near Bewdley, this half marathon presents the runners with many fine country views and not a few steep climbs.

Stan Alexander lead the threesome in with a superb run to finish in 28th position in the time of 99 minutes and 17 seconds to take the men’s over 55 prize. Team mates Anton Raath (150, 134.21) and Aiden Keher (151, also in 134.21), followed Stan in. there were 187 finishers.

19/07/07 Orienteering - Evening

Kenilworth Runners Chairman, Roger Wilkes, is always searching for different challenges for the members and they responded handsomely to this new and innovative event. In collaboration with Barry Elkington, who is also a member of Octavian Droobers, this new introduction to the Summers running activities proved a great success. Even the weather helped as the heavy rain held off long enough for the race to finish.

The (approximately) 4 mile course took the runners around the streets local to the wardens cricket Club where cunningly placed signs indicated a check point. These check points had to be found in the correct order and marked on a chart given to each competitor at the start.

26/07/07 Burton Bruiser - Summer League

With memories of the previous weeks light hearted event in their minds, no less than 35 members met outside the Peeping Tom Public House in Cromwell Lane to face a far harder challenge with the 6th event of the 8 race series. After a day of heavy rain the skies opened and even the sun appeared on one or two occasions

The 6 mile course is possibly, the hardest of the series. Starting outside the Peeping Tom, it proceeds along Cromwell Lane towards Burton Green. A left turn after the Railway Bridge into and along Red Lane offers some comfort as it is mainly downhill but after turning into the Birmingham Road and then into Beehive Hill a series of short but tough climbs are met. The steady climb along Hollis Lane and a left turn at the end takes the race into Crackley Lane where two steady, taxing, climbs are met before the final push up the hill in Westwood Heath Road to turn left into Cromwell Lane and back to the finish at the Peeping Tom.

Stuart Hopkins had a superb run to finish in 34 minutes and 7 seconds and break the course record for both seniors and veteran runners. Andrew Holbrook held onto the overall lead with 272 points, as the result of yet another excellent run but is under heavy pressure from Tom Dable with 271 points.
