The 13.1 mile long course winds it’s way through delightful lanes in the Vale of the White Horse, so named after the enigmatic horse carved on a hillside just south of the village. The course is mainly flat with a few small inclines which is excellent for fast running.
Charlotte had an excellent run finishing in 291st position out of 452 finishers in the time of 113 minutes and 46 seconds.
Without fear of serious challenge the area around Stowell Park and in the beautiful woods that cover the hills and valleys can be claimed as the best in England, indeed you would be hard pressed to find it’s equal elsewhere. In these surroundings a cross country race takes on a special character with the awe inspiring scenery and years of history. Possibly following many tracks that may have been used by the original owners of Chedworth Villa. The course lay mainly on Stowell Park estate but also passed close to the Villa and involved three crossings of the River Churn. Truly a superb place to run. Despite the beauty of the course it still offered some steep climbs to tax the athletes.
Stephen had a fine run on this tough course and finished in 78 minutes 28 seconds in 89th position out of 307 finishers.

Massey Easter 5 - Multi-terrain Race
On a very pleasant Easter Sunday morning five members of Kenilworth Runners joined about 60 other athletes at Warwick University Sports Hall to take part in the second time this race has been held.
The two lap course chosen for this race was partly on road and then on the grass tracks that follow the western boundary of the University. Starting by the Sports Hall the competitors were faced with a climb up the service road which follows the campus buildings until just before Gibbet Hill Road when a sharp left turn took them onto the grassy footpath that follows the University boundary and then through Whitefield Coppice to turn left again and past the Sports Hall and so to repeat this for the second leg with the race finishing on the playing field near the Sports Hall.
Conditions were excellent for this race with temperatures ideal for running. New member Joan Mason was Kenilworth’s star on the day when she took the second lady vet over 55 title in the superb time of 45 minutes and 3 seconds. Richard Steel took full advantage of the spring weather to lead Kenilworth Runners in with a superb performance to finish in 32.54 (one second better than last year). Tom Dable also had a great run and followed him to finish in 37.22 Pauline Dable had her usual determined run to finish in 45.13 and Laurence Copeland followed her in 47.30.

New Town Eight - Winter League
Kenilworth Runners held the last race on a Thursday evening, as opposed to the normal Sunday morning, due to fixture congestion. Nonetheless the eighth and final race of the series attracted 32 members all knowing that the final prizes depended upon their performance that evening.
To enable members to enjoy a splendid buffet after the race the course was chosen that started and finished in Glasshouse Lane just opposite the entrance to the Wardens Club. The 4 mile course went along Denser Drive to turn left into Parkhill, a long steady climb, where after a short distance a right turn into Whitemoor Road and then left into Farmer Ward Road. The return passed along Birches Lane into Windy Arbour back to Leyes Lane and then the final half mile along Denser Drive to the finish.
After the dust had settled it was Kenilworth Runners Chairman, Roger Wilkes, who deservedly took the prestigious title “Overall Winner”.

Despite the difficult conditions they all had good runs. It was Michael Johnston, winner of last years Leicester Marathon, who lead Kenilworth’s contingent in with a sparkling run to finish in 2 hours 39 minutes and 31 seconds in 127th position overall but 18th in his age category.

Stratford - Half & Full Marathon
Five members of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Stratford upon Avon to take part in one of the annual favourite races. One member bravely tackled the daunting Marathon which involves two laps of the course, whilst the others opted for the half marathon.
Starting outside the Theatre the course took the runners twice around the town centre before heading off to Luddington before reaching the long steady hill at Welford upon Avon. After this long climb and a sharp but short downhill a left turn took the runners into Milcote road where the Green Way is reached. Passing along this traffic free foot-path the course took the runners a short way up the A4390 and then into the Park and to the finish of what is a difficult route.
Kenilworth Runners representative in the Marathon, Aidan Keher, had an excellent run to finish in 4 hours 15 minutes and 20 seconds in 560th position out of 857 finishers. In the Half Marathon it was Robert Thompson who shone with a splendid run to finish in 14th overall position out of 1,712 finishers. Robert set an impressive time of 83 minutes and 9 seconds. He was followed by Sean Mitchell, senior men, (50th, 88.58), Anton Raath, men over 50, (542nd, 111.41), Julie Bevan, lady over 45, (859th, 119.40) and Joan Mason, lady over 55, (1061st, 126.09).
