11/11/06 Warwick University - Cross Country Relays

Kenilworth Runners were very pleased to take part in a superb afternoon of cross country running organised by Warwick University Athletics and Cross Country Club which was held in the University grounds on Saturday afternoon.
Fielding three men’s teams, each composed of four runners and one ladies team of three runners Kenilworth Runners joined 16 other teams in this relay race where each member of the team runs a full lap of 3.3 kilometres.
The day was blustery and cold but with glimpses of the sun and ideal for such an event.
The course of the race took runners from the start by Warwick University Sports Pavilion along the campus road until meeting the footpath that goes around the University boundary. Passing along very pleasant paths, frequently very muddy, it eventually came out by the playing fields where after a loop around the Pavilion to finish where the race started, and hand over to the next runner.
The ladies team had a good run and finished second overall in the time of 55.33.00. The Kenilworth men’s ‘A’ team finished in a very commendable third place overall in 47.37.00. Showing how hard the competition was on the day Kenilworth men’s ‘B’ team finished in tenth position in 52.07.00 only four minutes behind. Kenilworth men’s ‘C’ team also had a good run to finish eighteenth in 62.41.00. All agreed that they had had a most enjoyable afternoon’s friendly athletics.

12/11/06 Honiley Super Hoof - Winter League

On a bright, pleasant Sunday morning 17 members of Kenilworth Runners and their guests gathered at the Honiley Boot Corus Hotel to take part in the second and longest event, 6.75 miles, in this eight race series.
Starting and finishing in the Lane to Honiley, having first observed the one minute silence, the runners headed out towards Beausale but at the first junction turned right towards Clattyland Wood and a left turn into the Lane that took them past Haseley Knob to eventually pass through Haseley Green and after a nice downhill section turn left again at ’The Glebe’ and back through Waste Green and Beausale to the turn to Honiley and so to the finish.
With yet another superb run it was Rob Thompson who took the overall lead in the series to finish in 41.52 and gain 150 points.

19/11/06 Hartshill Heartbreaker - Hill Race

On a cold but very pleasant Sunday morning 11 members of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Hartshill near Nuneaton to take part in the annual cross country race.
The Kenilworth contingent was composed of 5 ladies and 6 men. The Hartshill Race was superbly organised by Sphinx AC. The course starts and finishes in the Hartshill School grounds and follows footpaths and pleasant, if muddy, tracks through Hartshill Country Park.
It is a tough course with some very hard climbs and presented the competitors with a tough challenge. Mike Johnson, after his marathon triumph at Leicester, lead the Kenilworth contingent and finished 2nd overall in the excellent time of 60 minutes and 27 seconds. Sue Taylor was Kenilworth’s first lady home with a great run to finish in 79 minutes and 57 seconds.

26/11/06 Temple Trot - Winter League

A brilliant winter morning, cool and calm with the prospect of a tough 5 mile road race attracted 16 members of Kenilworth Runners and their guests to the cross roads at Fen End, near Temple Balsall.
This was the third race in the eight race series and with points being hard to come by a tough competitive race was expected.
The route started and finished at the cross roads and for the first two miles runners were able to relax as they run downhill to Balsall Street in Temple Balsall. After turning left they followed the main road for a short distance before turning left to climb up Temple Lane. After a mile or so of climbing a right turn took them by Rosemary Farm and into Oldwich Lane East and so to the finish at the cross roads.
This is a course that seems to the runner to have a lot more climbing than descending and so it needed a good run to keep the overall lead. That was what Rob Thompson did and now leads the series with 198 points. However it was Bob Griffith who had the best run by beating his handicap by 64 seconds to take full 50 points in his first race of the series.
