27/03/05 Cleevewold Cross Country Race

Lucy, On a damp Sunday morning Kenilworth Runners John Dagnan tackled one of the hardest races in the Midlands. The 'Cleevewold' 14 mile race starts and finishes on Cleeve Common a beauty spot just south of Cheltenham. With many hills on the course which passes through some stunning Cotswold countryside the end presents one really tough challenge with the long hill to 'Belas Knap' which is a prehistoric long barrow and at the same time going past the site of a Roman Villa. It is unlikely that the runners would have appreciated these monuments as the hill seems endless. Non the less John had an excellent run to finish in the exalted position of 68th. 27/03/05 Banbury 15 mile

Lucy, Pauline and Kristy have great runs on this long, undulating course taking in the villages of Little & Great Bourton, Cropedy and Appletree in cool windy conditions. Well done to Lucy who bags yet another first female position!

13/03/05 Kenilworth Runners Club Handicap Series Road Race - 7th Race

Despite other attractions a hardy group of dedicated Kenilworth Runners turned out on an ideal Sunday morning to compete in the penultimate race of this intriguing series.

The race started just outside the White Horse Public House in Balsall Common. The first mile took the runners along the Kenilworth Road to the junction with the B4101 lane to Catchems Corner and so to the junction with Hodgetts Lane. The second mile was quite easy with a nice downhill to the sharp junction into Truggist Lane and so back into Balsall Common when just after the third mile marker runners turned into and along Meeting House Lane to run back to the B4101 and so back to the finish outside the White Horse.

With only one race left to provide the final Overall Winner Roger Wilkes the Race Organiser has taken the lead with 291 points. However he cannot feel secure for just behind him are five other runners hot in pursuit. They are Mick Morris, Laurence Copeland, Stef Shillington, Richard Steel and Nick Bradbury. At this time a good final run would give each a good chance to claim the coveted title. The group positions are as follows:-

GROUP RUNNER POINTS

A Mick Morris 285

A Tim Payne 234

B Stef Shillington 275
B Stan Alexander 221
B Richard Greenhalf 187

6/03/05 Kenilworth Runners Club Handicap Series Road Race - 6th Race

On a pleasant, if cold, Sunday morning 13 members of Kenilworth Runners met outside 'The Case is Altered' Public House near Hatton to take part in the 6th race of the Club's 8 race series of road races. This was the longest race of the series and involved two laps of a 3.5 mile course.

The race starts and finishes outside the Case is Altered heading first along Case Lane to '5 ways junction' when a sharp right turn takes the runners into Five Ways Road which is, for about a mile and half, undulating. A right turn into Case Lane presents the prospect of a long downhill but this easy section is soon paid for by a sharp climb up to the tee junction at Mouseley End. A sharp drop into Quarry Lane is soon replaced by a long steep climb past Mouseley Hill Farm back into Case Lane and to the finish or in the first lap, the half way mark.

Stan Alexander was the star on the day for he not only beat his handicap by a good margin but also played his 'Joker' to double his points. The lead has now changed as the penultimate race appears next week and there are two runners in contention for overall leader, Laurence Copeland and Nick Bradbury who both have 280 points. The group positions after race 6 are as follows:-

GROUP RUNNER POINTS

A Sue Divine 232
A Roger Wilkes 231
A Tim Payne 226

B Stef Shillington 266
B Stewart Fenton 186
B Stan Alexander 176
