03/10/04 - The Cardiff Full & 1/2 Marathon

On Sunday eight members of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Cardiff to take part in the full and half marathons. The weather was cool and slightly breezy at the start, with drizzly rain during the latter stages of the half marathon which turned to heavier rain for those who were running the full marathon.

The course for the half marathon was fairly flat but interesting and took in Cardiff Bay, the Docks, past the Welsh Assembly building and the Opera House, through Bute Park and right through Cardiff Castle itself, finishing within the magnificent Millenium Stadium with a lap of the pitch. The full marathon completed two laps of the same course.

In the marathon Gwyn Davies had a superb run to finish in 3 hours and 14 minutes. Kenilworths other marathon runner, ultra distance athlete Mary Joyce came 9th in the FV40 category in a time of 3hours and 39 minutes.

In the half marathon James Hartwright, winner of the summer race series, showed his continued good form by finishing in 1 hour 28 minutes. Colin Dooling was next (1.35) and he was followed by Richard Greenhalf (1.38), Keith Blake (1.51), Lucy Hartwright (1.57) and Sue Divine (2.03).

Congratulations to all finishers - the interval training obviously paid off well!

09/10/04 - Kenilworth 1/2 Marathon

Full on theday - this years race was a sell out with 729 entrants!. The race is now established as one of the leading races in the Midlands. The race was also part of the Warwickshire Road Race Championships.

On a cold and dry, if a little windy day, the course was the same as used in the three previous events giving runners many different challenges with a few hills and all in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.. Starting in Fishponds Road it heads out along the nearby roads to eventually meet Rouncil Lane and a nice downhill. The course then follows Rouncil Lane until it turns right near Waste Green and head out towards Hatton Green where another right turn leads through Haseley Green to Haseley Knob and right to Beausale where after a short while it returns to Rouncil Lane and back to the Leisure Centre and the finish.

This year's race proved yet another outstanding success for Kenilworth Runners and in particular for Roger Wilkes the race organiser.
