18th January, Kenilworth Runners Winter League Road Race Handicap SeriesOn a bright cold Sunday morning 24 members of
Kenilworth Runners took part in the 4th of this highly competitive series of races. The venue for this one was Cromwell Lane by the Peeping
Tom Public House. Several club races start and finish in this location but most members agree that the course chosen for Sunday's race is
the toughest, hence it's club name 'The Burton Bruiser'.
This 6 mile race had two starts, first for the 'A' group and then 10 minutes later for the 'B' and 'C' groups. The runners headed out along
Cromwell Lane towards Burton Green to turn left into Red Lane and along one of the few fast sections to the other end of Red Lane and onto
the footpath along the Birmingham Road to turn left again and up the short sharp climb of Beehive Hill and so until the next left turn into Hollis
Lane with it's long drag and into Crackley Lane with yet another sharp climb. After a further climb the runners turned left into Westwood
Heath Road and the tiring drag up to Cromwell Lane and the finish line.
Colin Dooling took the full 50 points on offer with a superb run but the honours on the day go to Stefan Shillington who not only had an
excellent run but also played his 'Joker' which doubles his points on the day and put himself into the overall lead with some clear water
between him and his closest challenger.
The Group positions are as follows:-
Group A: Karen Carter 192; Tim Payne 185; Mick Morris 170
Group B: Martin Carter 172; Roger Wilkes 163; Stewart Fenton 148
Group C: Ivan Holdsworth 174; John McNally 146; Roland Smythe 117
