RESULTS

A bright sunny morning bathed in autumnal sunshine attracted over six hundred runners to Kenilworth to take part in Kenilworth Runners Third Annual Half Marathon.

The bumper entry into this friendly event showed what a resounding success the previous two events had been with 658 entries received and 588 runners who completed the course. They were again treated to an excellent days running over one of the most attractive courses in the country which passes through beautiful Warwickshire countryside and as a bonus presents an excellent view of the Castle across the fields at the 10 mile point.

The first lady to finish was Tracy Darke of Hinckley RC with a superb run in 1 hour 27 minutes and 10 seconds. Garry Payne of George Elliott Striders was the first man to finish and he ran an excellent 1 hour 12 minutes and 45 seconds.

Kenilworth Runners Karen Hallas had such a good run that she finished in 4th position overall.

This was a truly superb day in which all the runners completed a course that is not easy with some tough little climbs particularly near the end at 11 miles and each achieved his personal goal.

05/10/03 - Midlands 10K Championships

Once again it was Tom and Pauline Dable and Martin Dorril representing the Club. Martin was representing Warwickshire in the senior mens competition. They actually won the mens race with Martin coming home in 7th for the team in a time of 36:14.Tom completed the course in 43:11, whilst Pauline ran 50:05

11/10/03 - The Worcestershire Beacon Hill Race at Malvern

On Saturday six members of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Malvern in Worcestershire to take part in the annual 6.75 mile hill race which is brilliantly organised by Worcester AC Club. Approximately 300 hundred runners took part in the event which was held on a fine and dry day a benefit out on the course as many of the tracks can be difficult in wet conditions but on Saturday underfoot conditions were excellent. This year being the 50th anniversary of the Hill Race each runner was presented with a nice picture of the Rose Gardens as a reminder of a very tough race.

The Worcester Beacon Hill Race is a race that generally attracts runners who welcome the daunting prospect of an unrelenting climb followed by a sublime chase down hill to the finish line. This race offers this challenge in full with a steady pull up through the wooded sides of the Malvern Hills above the Town to meet the long gruelling track up to the summit of Worcester Beacon which stands at 1340 feet above sea level. The race returns via North End which also has its long climbs but offers superb views over Worcestershire as a reward for the earlier effort of the climb. Finally after North End is left behind the race heads downhill back to the Rose Gardens in Malvern Town where it started.

Mick Johnson lead the runners back with a magnificent run of 44 minutes and 17 seconds to give him the 4th overall position. He was followed closely by Mick Williams who also had an excellent run to finish in 47 minutes and 16 seconds to place him amongst the top runners in 11th position. Celia Mills was Kenilworth Runners first lady to finish and she excelled herself with a time of 56 minutes and 31 seconds to give herself 80th position overall and 3rd lady to finish which was a superb achievement. Tom Dable also ran well to finish in 59 minutes and 53 seconds in 127th position and was followed by Mick Morris in 72 minutes and 13 seconds and Pauline Dable in 75 minutes. Their positions are not available.
