On Sunday eleven members of Kenilworth Runners took part in the Stratford Half Marathon and
one bravely took on the Full Marathon. Demonstrating further the strength of the club the men took the 1st team prize, for the fourth year in succession,
and not to be outdone, the ladies came 2nd in the ladies competition.
On a warm afternoon they joined over 2000 runners, some of whom ran the full two lap marathon course. The Stratford Half marathon, together with the
full marathon, starts in the town centre just outside the Memorial Theatre. The course starts with two laps around the town centre before
heading out along the Evesham Road. After a short distance it turns left into the lane leading to Luddington and follows this through the village
of Luddington to turn left along the Evesham Road before another left turn into Long Marston Road, through the village of Welford on Avon,
up the long hill and then a short descent before turning left and so along to the Greenway. At the end of the line the route goes up and back
along the bypass and so into the Park to follow the river to the finishing line by the band stand. The full marathon generally follows the
same course twice. Simon Vine lead the runners in with yet another splendid run in 79 minutes and 18 seconds to finish in 14th position overall.
He was followed by Mick Williams (82.24, 27th). Both runners showed no ill effects from their superb London performances the week before.
Roger Homes (83.49, 33rd) and Richard Steel (85.32, 39th) completed the winning men's team.
The ladies performed with equal distinction and took the Ladies 2nd team prize. Mary Joyce lead the ladies in with a sizzling run in 107
minutes 56 seconds and took 406 position overall. She was followed by Elaine Potts (111.29, 498th), Pauline Dable (117.18, 657th) and Jane Mc Nally
(125.54, 870th) who made up the four lady team.
Robert Carr was the only club representative in the full marathon and ran an outstanding race finishing in 4 hours 2 minutes and 59 seconds
a truly heroic effort on such a tough course in warm conditions.

- SandringhamHalf Marathon.
On Sunday Mike Johnson of Kenilworth Runners travelled to Norfolk to run in the Sandringham Daffodil
Marie Curie Half Marathon. Mike has had a splendid season so far with a first place in the competitive Birmingham Cross country League and has also
represented the County in Cross Country, but on Sunday he showed his quality on the road and came back with the first prize finishing in first place in a time of 71 minutes and 3
seconds. The undulating course was mainly over roads but the last 1.3 miles were cross country making it somewhat unique. Windy conditions added to the difficulty of the course and underlined
what an achievement Mike‘s performance was.
