13/10/01 Worcester Beacon 6 Mil

The Worcester Beacon Hill Race is a race that generally attracts runners who welcome the daunting prospect of an unrelenting climb followed by a sublime chase down hill to the finish line. This race offers this challenge in full with a steady pull up through the wooded sides of the Malvern Hills above the Town to meet the long grueling track up to the summit of Worcester Beacon which stands at 1340 feet above sea level. The race returns via the most northern Malvern hill with superb views over Worcestershire all the way as a reward for the earlier effort of the climb.

All seven runners had good runs with Tom Dable leading them in with a fine run of 59.13 minutes. He was followed by Celia Mills (60.00), Stan Alexander (62.34), Richard Greenhalf (65.31), John Woodrow (66.50), Mick Morris (74.00) and Pauline Dable (74.34).

14/10/01 - Daventry 6 Mile

On Sunday morning Pam and Roger Wilkes travelled to Daventry to run in the 6 mile road race which followed an undulating rural course. Roger Wilkes had an excellent run to finish in 44.37 minutes but his effort was surpassed by his wife Pam who had superb run to finish in 52.20 minutes, a fine performance that won her the coveted first Lady over 55 prize.

21/10/01 Grizzly 2001 A Race Oddity

Apparently it was blowing a gale in the Midlands! Seaton promenade - 10 in the morning.   The massed start of over 1,000 runners start this years Grizzly.   Mick and Roland at the start.

And they are off........   Kerry Waine makes his way along the beach just after the start.   Closely followed by John Woodrow - in the middle of the group hoping the dog will pull him along.

Followed by our man John Jones at the rear of the field.   Meanwhile, Pickles waits patiently for her master to return.   At about 4 miles its downhill to Branscombe beach

It goes on and on down...and then......   You have to go all the way back up to the top on the other side.   Our man John finds that when the going gets tough, the tough stop.

On the way back from Branscombe - half a mile along the beach and a little surprise..Mick Williams leads the way.......   Into the pool - still at least it cleaned your legs off a bit. Next stop, Stairway to Heaven.   Next up it's Roland's turn - notice the nice black leggings

Yes, the water was cold.   Stan the Man taking it rather gingerly along the stones.

As closing in behind him very quickly is Celia, leading this group of three.

Kerry is the next one to arrive   Closely followed by John Woodrow   Who has to queue up for his bath......

And after all that - John makes it to the finish - 527th; 3:40:04   John Jones finally makes it back, much to everyone's relief........   There are only so many bananas you can eat while you wait

Now that's one way of getting clean!

So where did we all finish? =>

21/10/01 Blenheim Palace 10K

Not to be outdone. Lou Frondella, not normally associated with running by himself, tackled the Blenheim Palace 10K. Lou's time of 36:30 placed him 15th out of the 600 starters. Despite being slightly slower than Wayne's time, Lou reliably informs me that the course and the conditions were obviously a lot tougher.

21/10/01 Bradford 10K

Whilst others were basking in the glorious sunshine on the south coast, Wayne Oakes decided to tackle the Bradford 10K. In a field of over 700 runners, Wayne finished 54th in a time of 35:50

28/10/01 Puma Stroud Half Marathon

Five members of the Club took part in this popular race and it was Gwyn Davies continuing his run of good form that led them home in a time of 1:26:51 for 165th place out of a field of over 1200. Rob Carr, gaining yet more experience at the distance finished in 1:33:27 for 308th place, whilst Andy Groves was 617 in a time of 1:46:07. In the battle between the girls it was Mary Joyce who was first home in a time of 1:58:02 and 935th place ahead of Annette Robinson 2:16:11 and 11532nd place.
