19/06/01 - Banbury 5

Making the short trip down the road to Banbury for this East Midlands Race were Hans, Martin and Mick. Just for a change it wasn't Mick who stole the honours. Both Hans and Martin broke the 28 minute barrier whilst Mick was just a second over 29 minutes. Hans time of 27:10 was some 40 seconds in front of Martin. Unfortunately Hans suffered an injury and was unable to compete in either of the following races - Two Castles or the Midsummer 5.

21/06/01 - Race 3 Summer League - Temple Trot

The third race in the series was the first of the pursuit races and was keenly contested by all those who arrived on time (Lou take note of the start times!). However, that being said, it was the flaming Ferrari Frondella who flambed Mick Williams, who seems to be suffering from creatine overdose as his performances are beginning to flag - when was the last time he beat Martin?

Congratulations to Denise though, who was the first home and scored the 50 points. Timekeeping was going great until about half way through the finish when all of a sudden about half a dozen runners swarmed over the finishing line. Still I counted them all out and I counted them all in!

24/06/01 - 2001 British Vets Championships - Slough

Richard Elliot continues his excellent track performances by finishing 5th in both the mens 50-55, 800m and the 1500m. His time for the 800 metres was 2:09 and for the 1500, 4:31. This comes on top of his excellent 2nd place in the 1500m which obtained in Cardiff in February in the National Vets indoor Championships (If you get Runners World, see page 76 of the June 2001 edition for a picture of our man Elliot -number 164!)

24/06/01 - Wyre Forest Half Marathon

Whilst the lesser mortals were competing in the Two Castles, Celia Mills and John Woodrow decided to compete in this tough half. Only a handful of runners completed the course in under an hour and a half, and it was Celia who was our first runner back in a time of 1:50:21. John returned a time of 1:55:27. As with the Banbury race, the finishing positions and the numbers competing are not to hand........unless somebody out there knows and could let me know!

24/06/01 - Two Castles

Mark Farnell made his first appearance in Kenilworth colours today and stormed to a superb second place. With the weather being particulary hot and humid it made for a difficult race, but at least there were watering stops along the way. Mark may just have missed out on top place, but if he can produce this type of performance in the forthcoming Warwick Road Races, then we may start to climb up the table. Not to be out done, Martin Dorrill also ran a great race to finish fourth - his highest ever placing, just a few seconds behind Mark. Lou Frondella finished 7th, with Mick Williams finishing 10th. Altogether 19 Runners official started, but because, for the first time in its history the event it was fully subscribed a week before, it meant that several Runners had to be content with competing in the race but not being allowed over the finish line.

30/06/01 - Bourton on the Water 15 mile

Martin Dorrill took to the Water on Saturday evening for this annual 15 mile race in the Cotswolds. On a cracking evening for running, Martin completed the 2 lap course - renowned for the fact that it has a really steep hill in it which you have to tackle twice - in 1:32:58.
