05/11/2000 - Meanwhile, over in New York...

In far away New York, Kenilworth runners Gwyn Davies and Angus McIntyre ran the Marathon completing in 3hours 24 minutes (2,407th place) and 3hours 31minutes 28seconds (3,476 place) respectively, both excellent performances.

05/11/2000 - Race 1 - Winter League, Barford Belter

The "Barford Belter" started in Wasperton Lane going due east up a long steady climb, taxing the tired legs of those who ran on Saturday. At one and half miles the course turns abruptly onto a very muddy track eventually coming out onto Hareway Lane. Turning left the course is mainly downhill into Barford and to the finish in Wasperton Lane.

The overall handicap winner was Helen Wilkes with 50 points with a strong run, Anne Lewis (47) and Tim Payne (44) lead group A, Westley Williams (48) and Gerry Lewis (47) lead group B and John McNally (49) and Richard Steel (47) lead group C.

19/11/2000 - Hartshill Heartbreaker

Five members of the club tackled the daunting 10 mile cross country race "Hartshill Heartbreaker";, Hartshill is just north of Nuneaton.

The course takes in pleasant woods and fields but unlike Saturday it was very muddy and with the hills it was a tough run. Mick Williams lead Kenilworth Runners in with a magnificent run in 64.21 minutes giving him 7th place and the 2nd over 40 veterans place. He was followed by Richard Steele (72.48) in 48th place, Roland Smythe running his first Heartbreaker finished with an excellent 73.53 in 60th place, Roy Hilton (90.23) in 189th place and Mick Morris (94.07).

26/11/2000 - Race 2 - Winter League, Crackley Cracker

The race started at Crackley Wood and comprised of two laps of 2.6 miles each going along Crackley Lane, Upper Spring Lane and Hollis Lane which includes the steep hill from under the old Railway Bridge. Positions in the league are based upon individual handicaps.

Fourteen runners took part with Helen Wilkes taking the full 50 points with a fine run of 38.16 minutes. John McNally also had a good run beating his handicap with 32.09 minutes.

The position after two races is that John McNally tops the league, with Peter Southall in prime position in the 'A' group, Roger Wilkes top of the 'B' group and Roland Smythe top of the 'C' group. Whilst there are still six races to go the present leaders will take some catching!

John McNally Stef & Gerry
John McNally just misses out for 1st place, but leads overall.    Stef pulls back Gerry on the second lap.

 Helen Wilkes  Steve Jones
