03/08/2000 - Mick Morris takes over at the top of the Summer League.

It's all change at the top again as Mick Morris takes over the top spot from Mick Williams. In the penultimate race of the Summer League at Burton Green last Thursday, it was Mick Morris who managed to keep his cool and break away at the top of the table. The weather didn't help matters, it was dark and gloomy, but at least the rain held off as some 28 runners tackled the 6 mile circuit. First home was Roger Clay who collected the 50 points. he just beat Gerry Lewis to the line in a sprint finish. Making a welcome return was Tim Payne who after a long lay off found the going tough, but still managed to complete the course, much to his relief. Quickest run of the evening went to Richard Steel, who completed the circuit in 36 minutes and 25 seconds, just edging out Roger Holmes - 36:43. So with just one race to go the table now looks like this. Mick Morris is leading overall with 273 points, Robin Groves leads the A group with 251 points, Gwyn Davies the B's with 249 points, whilst Mick Williams, who missed the race due to being on holiday - will it prove to be his downfall? - leads the C's with 269 points.

09/08/2000 - Mick Morris completes in Leicester League.

Mick Morris was in action yet again when he ran the Huncote 5 mile race last Wednesday. On the undulating course he completed the race in a time of 36:52

10/08/2000 - Martin Dorrill chalks up another impressive performance.

Race 4 of the Warwickshire Road Race Series took part last week over at Rowheath in Birmingham. A good turnout of 16 runners took part in the very quick 5K, 2 lap course. First home was Martin Dorrill in a splendid time of 15:52 ,just edging out Wayne Oakes who recorded 15:59. Martin's time was good enough for him to finish 3rd over all whilst Wayne's time put him in 6th place. Richard Steel was the next runner home in 16:54 ahead of Lou Frondella 16:59; Roger Holmes 17:06; Richard Elliot 17:12 and Sam Kincaid 17:15. There was another slight gap before the rest of the Runners came through - Roland Smythe 18:02; Mike Bissell 18:22; Terry Dyer 18:28; Gary Bradbury 19:06; Lisa Rodda 19:15 - 3rd Lady overall - Richard Greenhalf 19:30; Martin Carter 19:51; Karen Carter 25:09 and Jane McNally 26:49. The result puts the veterans team in a strong position to challenge for the honours over the last two races.

19/08/2000 - Kenilworth win the Race the Train Team event for the second time in 3 years!

Kenilworth Runners enjoyed a cracking weekend at Tywyn on the west coast of Wales by regaining the Team trophy they last won in 1998. With the first three counting, the Runners were led home by Mick Williams - 1:34:32; Martin Dorrill - 1:34:47 (Incidentally the exact same time he achieved last year); and Lou Frondella - making his debut - 1:39:12. These times were good enough for finishing places 24th; 27th and 56th out of a field of over 1,000 runners. Overall an excellent performance and coupled with the success of capturing the Warwickshire Half Marathon Championship at Stratford earlier in the year, this winters cross country leagues should be very exciting. Not to be outdone, Roland Smythe, making his third appearance after a gap of 8 years also beat the train in a time of 1:44:15 to finish in 108th place and beat the train by 56 seconds. (As a useless piece of information for you statisticians out there - his previous two times were 1991 - 1:44:53, 169th place and missed the train by 40 seconds; 1992 - 1:43:40, 145th place and beat the train by 1 minute 25 seconds. Consistent if nothing else)

Altogether 10 Runners completed the 14.1 mile course on a very dry and hot day. The sheep track this year was particularly "hairy" with passing opportunities few and far between and even after we had come off this, the couple of miles following were also difficult with the hard rutted ground playing havoc with your ankles. Terry Dyer - also making his debut - found the going a bit too tough at the beginning and was forced to ease back and eventually finished in a time of 1:49 exactly and 168 place. Other finishers were Stan Alexander, who turned up at the campsite at midnight and had to pitch his tent aided only by the light of this headlamps, in 1:56:27 (284th); Gwyn Davies 1:59:35 (330th); Celia Mills 2:00:38 (342nd and 21st lady overall); Kerry Waine 2:03:01 (378th) and Andy Biss 2:03:03 (379th).

Our only representative in the 10K event was Daniel Biss who finished in 72nd place out of 208 in a time of 51:36 and also managed to beat the train in the process. Next year he is eligible for the Senior race - so then we will find out what he is really made of!

And this is what we were up against!   After a race like that, what better than a dip in the ice cold water near the top of Cader Idris. Mick Martin celebrate   Waiting for the start of the main race.
Roland
After a gap of 8 years, Roland finds it doesn't get any easier - but it still feels good to beat the train.
