This inaugural one lap race, staged by Sphinx AC to replace the Hartshill Heartbreaker, was every bit as challenging as its predecessor, despite the course was reasonably flat. Held over rugged pasture and with a section through the woods, these sections were both energy sapping, in addition to a strong wind at times. There was a sting in the tail in the last two miles when runners were put through a series of bunkers. A typical original cross country course in a beautiful setting.
