Cognac - Half Marathon Print E-mail

Five Kenilworth Runners' flew out to France this weekend to take part in the Cognac Half Marathon, held on the Saturday of a three day carnival weekend that included a 10K and a marathon too. Starting from the small riverside town of Jarnac, near Cognac, in the wine-growing area of Charente, the route took in some unexpected hills, through fields and vineyards. The course also headed through a chateau with a short detour near the end via a cognac warehouse (with tastings on offer for those who had time!) Our Kenilworth runners were treated to a goodie bag French style, with a bottle of wine; a cap; and an excellent technical T-shirt for their efforts. Moreover there was a runners' village with food, wine and cognac for sale!

Enjoying the continental course, Sally Hicks was first home in a superb 1:53:50 (14th in category and a PB). Alistair Mills followed in 1:57:16, Arthur Smith setting a new PB of 2:00:00; Liz Hegan 2:13; and Joan Mason 2:15 (4th in category).

The following day a ramble was arranged which showed our runners more of the local history and culture, before ending in a barn where more food and drink was available.
