Dowdeswell Dawdle - Winter League Print E-mail

On what will be the last race in the Winter League of 2008 25 members and visitors made the journy to Hunningham for the race known as Dowdeswell Dawdle.

This 5 mile race follows a course starting by the Red Lion Public House and then out of Hunningham along Weston Lane before turning right after a mile to take the road to Wappenbury. Another right turn along a narrow lane passes Wappenbury Hall and through Eathorpe to join the Fosse Way. This ancient road climbs up Hunningham Hill where a right turn leads onto a smooth two mile downhill to the finish in Hunningham.

With not the best of morning to be running with cold icy wind made some of the runners keep their warmer clothes on, Richard Simkiss had an outstanding run to better the course record for an extra 5 points added to his best run of the day 50 points.

Sally Hicks also ran well to gain 48 points to take the overall lead group positions as follows:-
