Rebecca Smith headed to Oxfordshire to take part in the thirtieth running of the Abingdon Marathon on Sunday 21 October. One of the best known and respected UK marathons, the BARR gold graded event has a 1,100 entry limit which is always reached months before the race takes place. Beginning and finishing with a lap of Tilsley Park athletics track, the two lap course heads to and through the villages of Drayton, Milyon and Sutton Courtenay before heading back through Abingdon and into Tilsley Park.
Running strongly until suffering badly in the final six miles, Rebecca ran well to finish just outside her PB in 3:50:28. The race was won by Paul Fernandez of Abingdon Amblers AC in 2:32:02 with Liz Hartney of Reading Road Runners the ladies winner in 2:52:14.
