Andrew Siggers and Pete Bryan made the midweek trip to the Open University Campus in Milton Keynes to take part in the Milton Keynes 10K, the eighth and final race in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series. Having run the previous seven races, Andrew went into the final round leading the series but was under threat from Leamington C&AC's Tom Foulerton who had better results in four races with the best of five to count. Pete, on the other hand, had not raced at all in the series and whilst hopeful of a good performance, found himself lacking Andy's race sharpness. A fast pace ensued and a lead group of four, including Foulerton soon, got away, leaving Siggers to contest sixth place. Further back, Bryan's eager start led to a difficult second half of the race and he had to be content with 40th place and a time of 37:42. At the head of the race, Siggers held off challenges to his sixth spot, finishing in a satisfying 34:18, especially having raced just three days earlier at Stratford and just one position behind fifth placed Foulerton. Unfortunately for Andrew, Foulerton's performance meant he claimed the overall series victory, with the Kenilworth athlete in second place. Generous prizes donated by The Running Shop, Northampton rewarded the efforts of both athletes. |
