The Sphinx AC Summer 5 at Coventry War Memorial Park hosted the third round of the Warwickshire Road Race league and incorporated the Warwickshire Five Mile Championships. Despite the poor recent summer weather, the race was held in near perfect conditions over a two lap course.

The battle for first Kenilworth Runners home was intense with Paul Andrew taking the honours, finish third overall in a superb 26:25. He was followed by a rapidly improving Rich Simkiss in 26:33 and Phil Gould, who claimed a new five mile PB with 26:42 to take fifth position. Paddy Roddy suffered stitch and was a little disappointed with his time of 28:30. Nevertheless he took fifteenth position overall, which helped the men take first place in the team competition, and was the second placed Junior runner. Behind Phil Fusi (29:25), a delighted Andrew Holbrook broke a seven year old PB over five miles with 29:38.

Our first lady home was Nardia Poole, who once again ran brilliantly to finish second lady, clocking new PB figures of 31:32. Sara Habib was second lady to finish in 36:09 and Sally Hicks third in 37:05. It was a well contested event by Kenilworth Runners, with 23 runners taking part in the race.

Martin Broomfield adds that 36.58 was a PB  by about 1 min 13 secs over the 5 mile stretch.
