Three club members left a snowy Warwickshire and headed to Church Stretton to take on the Long Mynd Valleys Race. The 11.5 mile off-road race starts and finishes in the scenic Cardingmill Valley and includes the summits of Callow and Yearlet whilst covering approximately 4500ft of climbing. Treacherous icy conditions slowed down some of the steep descents with a number of competitors opting for a sledging technique which left already weary bodies covered in a number of sore looking scratches. The pace at the front however remained relentless. Steve Cale from Mercia Fell Runners once again reigned victorious some six minutes clear at the front completing the course in 1:38. Second place when to Welsh international Richard Roberts (Eryri) and Mercia's Pete Vale finishing third. Kenilworth Runners Connor Carson took a slight tumble mid race and was lucky to escape with some minor grazes to his knee. He found the going a little tough just only two weeks after his PB setting marathon at Gloucester, coming home in twentieth position in around 2h3m. Running four minutes faster than in 2011, which was held one month later in better conditions, Pete Matthews was really pleased to cross the line in twenty eighth position in around 2h8m (Results are not currently available). Celia MIlls finished a little down on last years time, admitting that she spent more time sledging on the slopes this year.
