Seven members of Kenilworth Runners made their way to Tewkesbury School to take part in the fifth and final race of the 2011/12 Gloucester Cross Country League. Both men’s and ladies races held in a bitter conditions, with a snowstorm sweeping across a frozen and rutted course consisting of mostly flat farmland.

In the ladies 8km race, Sarah Stein was first Kenilworth Runner home in 37th position. Pauline Dable was 58th and claimed a silver medal as second F60 in the league standings. Joan Mason finished sixtieth. In the men’s 12km race Roger Homes was first home in 38th position and Stef Shillington may or may not have won a medal in the M65 category. As Pauline Dable explains:

“Not sure whether Stef won a medal this year. (It was) too cold to wait for the final positions. The HQ in the Gym had no heating and the tea and coffee had sold out before both the ladies and men’s races had finished.”

Runners then had the unenviable task of making it home safely in the treacherous conditions.
