Coventry parkrun #103 Print E-mail

Held in the cold before the snow storm, 239 runners took part in the second anniversary edition of Coventry Parkrun - the free to enter 5km timed run held at Coventry Warm Memorial Park.

The thermometer was reading -8.3 Celsius at the nearby Bablake weather station, but this did not deter the runners, many of whom chose to run in fancy dress and some in their dressing gowns as they struggled to keep warm and catch their breath in the bitterly cold conditions.

Despite the harsh weather, Kenilworth Runners’ Stuart Hopkins came home in first position, clocking a sprightly 16:54. He was followed in second place by Matthew Kingston-Lee, who knocked nine seconds from his previous 5km personal best with 17:28.

There was a battle royal between Mick Williams and Clive Pearce - Mick edged out Clive to take fifth position, but Clive was nevertheless delighted to break nineteen minutes for the first time with a new PB of 18:59.

Further down the field, Matthew Elkington (20:01) was the first Junior finisher and there was a PB for Gary Dilnot (22:29). A total of 10 Kenilworth Runners took part in Coventry Parkrun #103 and were able to enjoy post run hot drinks and cakes to celebrate the event’s second birthday.
