Only a week after the thrills and spills in Hay Wood came Event 7:

Inter Club Race from Stoneleigh, organised by Spa Striders

The Club came out in force for the annual fixture with Spa Striders and Stratford A.C., with this year’s hosts Spa obligingly providing a course running right past the front door of the Wardens. Enjoyment of the course and of a well-organised event helped the Club to come good on the night.

In terms of the Club League competition, this was again an event where most runners ran significantly slower than their target time. Only 3 runners broke through into positive territory, with Philip McCorquodale starring on the day with 3^rd place in the race as a whole and top place in the Club League results.

Gary Dilnot continues to go from strength to strength, and he took a stunning 2^nd place in the Club League results on the night.

And the final runner in positive territory was Dave Brown, with a fantastic run to take a more than healthy half minute off his target time.

The only joker-player on the night was Richard Simkiss, who took 11^th place in the Club League (2^nd on the night) and took 80 points as a result. Richard is starting to loom large in the Club League Standings now

Inter Club Race: Club League Results

Ever-present Sally Hicks continues to lead the way, with a very impressive 309 points, with Rich Steel not far behind on 289. The only other ever-present, Dave Ramus is very close behind Rich on 285. Rich and Dave lead the B and C groups respectively, with Aidan Keher sneaking into top place in Group A, just ahead of previous leader, Liz Hegan.

Of the 5 people currently in pole position to battle it out for the prizes for the rest of the season, only Dave has yet to play his joker. Some well-placed jokers could yet bring others into the picture.
