Club League - Race 12: Wooton Wander Print E-mail

*** Please Note - Results Update 11/12/11 ***

The final race of the 2011 club league saw a very impressive crowd of 25 runners (4 guests) and a whopping 10 marshalls turn up to try and bag some final points in the league standings. With many runners having not played their joker yet it was automatically played for them, allowing for a good shake up in the league standings.

The short sharp 4mile course was made somewhat more difficult owing to the blustery conditions and the long drag back up from Leek Wooton towards the finish though this did not deter Patrick Roddy and Paul Buchan from making exceptionally strong finishes (I've heard reports of legs becoming nothing less than a blur as these runners approached the finish line). Clive Pearce was another to make a spirited finish, perhaps in a final effort to try and secure the league title for 2011.

Cheese & Bacon Sarnies (not together - as appetising as it sounds!) were enjoyed afterwards by the well deserving runners... and all that leaves is for me to sincerely thank Stephen Chalkley for acting as chief marshall for the race, and Rich Whiting for sorting the post race nosh and acting again as timekeeper as he looks towards volunteering as Race League Organiser for 2012 - of course my thanks is extended to all those who turned up to marshall on the day, ensuring that virtually every twist turn and corner was manned to guide runners to the finish!

Final Race & League results will be published following the Kenilworth Runners Gala Dinner on Saturday 3rd December where the league winners will be announced.
For now though, guest runners' results are as below:

After the announcement of the League Winner at the Club's 25th Anniversary Dinner, race results are now available on the above link.

Top honours for the race went to Sarah Stein who had a brilliant run to be the only person on the day to finish ahead of their predicted time - coming in 12 seconds ahead of target, her 0.67% improvement combined with her 'joker' being played automatically for her made for an impressive haul of 100 points. Fred Rex took second spot for the day narrowly missing his predicted time by 2 seconds. Sally Jacob took 3rd place to take home 96 points thanks to her sterling performance and her joker.

The results show that clearly the course and conditions were tough, with so many people struggling to hit their predicted time. 11 Jokers were played on the day, which shook up the league standings some what, and perhaps leaving some to regret not playing their joker earlier in the league.

There will be an 'end of year' league report at the Club AGM which will be published online soon afterwards.
