Click here for Results from Race 6 - Baginton Bender Click here for League Standings After Race 6 A pleasant sunny evening saw an impressive turnout of 46 members (41 runners, 5 Marshalls) for the relatively short (but bloomin' tough work) 3.5mile course that was the 6th race of the 2011 Club Race League, the 'Baginton Bender'. A steep descent at the end of the first mile didn't seem a fair exchange for the long uphill slog that awaited in the third mile of the race before a nice flat finish over the last half mile or so.The three top spots were dominated by relative new-comers to the league, having completed the last two races as 'qualifiers' the three were out to earn points for the first time in the league and certainly made a strong impact. Richard Ward edged ahead taking top spot by improving on his predicted time by 1:24 (5.75% improvement), closely followed by Richard Hales who improved on his his predicted time by 1:18 (5.37%). Chris Hart was remarkably close to gaining 2nd spot for the evening with an improvement of 5.34% over his predicted time... missing out on second spot by 0.03% (less than 1 second). Congratulations must also go to Martin Dorrill for his impressive run to take the Male Vets course record - edging ahead of Mick Williams' old record by 3 seconds to finish in 19:52. Rich Simkiss was able to set a new Mens Course Record of 18:32, beating the old record set by Roger Holmes. As for overall standings, everything remains fairly unchanged at the top of the leagues, with Clive Pearce still as overall league leader. The Dables remain in top spot in both the A and B league and Rich Simkiss still sits at the top of the C group. Overall Series Leader: A Group Standings: B Group Standings: C Group Standings: If anyone would like the opporunity of staging a race as those above have done, we're always looking for volunteers to set up, take down, so timekeeping and generally marshal the club races. The courses and dates for the remainder of the year have been set, so if you fancy volunteering yourself or getting a group together for marshalling duties of a specific race, then please contact me and I'll assign you to a race... initially volunteers would be appreciated for the next club race on 21st July. One final mention is for a PROVISIONAL Inter-Club Race date of Wednesday 3rd August - Many of you will be aware that this is an annual event whereby the club competes against Spa Striders and Stratford Athletic Club in a 3 way battle... the event is scored in such a way that getting EVERY CLUB MEMBER POSSIBLE to race has a massive impact on the final team standings, so I would urge everyone who is able to make themselves available for this race. This year the event is being organised by Stratford AC, and further details will be sent out as soon as they are available. Should you notice any errors in the results, either your own result, or that of someone else, please contact me so that the error can be corrected. It is much easier to rectify any problems sooner rather than later on in the league. |
