Club League - Race 1: Warden's Waddle Print E-mail

Full Results from Race 1 - Warden's Waddle

For the first time in a long time the Summer League hosted a race of relatively short distance - covering an undulating 5km. 54 club members turned up for this race (plus a few spectators) and were joined by the ever improving crowd from the Women's Running Network. With hills from the first corner for the majority of the race, the course seemed unlikely for PB's, but was guaranteed to get the heart rates up as runners pushed hard on a somewhat warm evening. Rich Simkiss hung onto Phil Gould in the early stages and was able to edge away slightly in the latter stages to be the fastest runner on the day. James Griffiths was the most improved runner of the day coming in over 2minutes ahead of his predicted time - no mean feat on such a short course. His performance was rewarded with a box of chocs, and 50 points in the league standings to take the lead in the C group. John McKenna ran over a minute and a half faster than his predicted time to gain 47 points and lead the B group, whilst the A group is currently lead by Liz Hegan who also ran faster than her predicted time to pick up 46 points. The overall league is currently lead by Phil McCorquodale, who had the foresight to play his joker and improve his performance index by over 8% to take 49 points on the day, which doubled to 98 points with the use of his joker.

Being a new course, records were set across the board:

Senior Men - Rich Simkiss 16:14
Male Vets - Pete Bryan 18:13
Senior Ladies - Lucy Beaumont 23:04
Female Vets - Mandy Crust 23:28
