Kenilworth Runners enjoyed an evening which kicked off the Summer League 2010 and celebrated the winners from the previous Summer and Winter Leagues as well as other running achievements by Club members across the year. The first Summer League race ‘The Wardens Waddle’, a cheeky 5km race which involved a loop out and back round from the Wardens was run by Club members as well as Women’s Running Network ladies.
Pete Bryan, Club Chairman opened the evening’s presentation with a summary of some of our proudest achievements, namely the men’s cross-country team moving up to the challenging first division. The Men’s A-Team from the Hilly 100 re-gained the shield with a massive advantage over the next team home of 24 minutes, on the previous scorching hot week-end’s racing. Each of the 10 members of the team collected a memento for their achievement. Recognition was also given to members who won several age-category prizes in races across the year, as well as the new force of Richard Simkiss, a worthy adversary to the cross-country prowess of Phil Gould, and who was first Kenilworth Runner home at the London Marathon with a stunning time of 2 hours 42. Mention was also made of the distances travelled to races, across the UK and much further afield, with club members currently on their way to South Africa to race in Comrades.
Prizes were then handed out for the Club League races, which were:- 2009 Winter Cat A Winner - Caroline Pack 2009 Winter Cat B Winner - JOINT - Colin Underhill & Stewart Fenton 2009 Winter Cat C Winner - Rich Steel Mandy Crust won the overall Winter League

Phil Gould, Men’s Captain picked up both Cross-Country Member and Male Club Member of the Year, having moulded and headed a strong Cross-Country Team, whilst improving his own times and having also been selected to represent Warwickshire at the Inter-Counties Fixture.
There then followed a special presentation to Roger Wilkes, former Club Chairman and Race Director, who had made a huge contribution to the Club and its successful running of events. An enthusiastic Bee-Keeper, Roger was thrilled to receive a Bee-Hive complete with plaque on behalf of the members. The evening concluded with a Quiz, hosted by John Woodrow. Rod Goodwin kindly organised the PA equipment for the evening.
